Love You Coaster Free Chart

If you’re anything like me and you’ve left it until the last minute to think about Valentine’s Day, don’t worry! This coaster can be made in a couple of hours.

The colour-work technique I’ve used here is Overlay Mosaic Crochet. I’ve recently completed a couple of projects using this technique and it looks really effective. It’s also easier than some techniques as you don’t have to change colour mid-row.

I find it easier to work from a chart rather than written instructions, so for this design I have created a chart instead of a pattern. Just follow the instructions beneath the chart to help you understand where and which stitches to use.

I used Drops Safran yarn for this design as it’s a nice light sport weight yarn and the coaster comes out just the right size. You’ll need a crochet hook size 3mm.

Here’s the key for the symbols in the chart:

S = Starting Chain b = border stitch (work a single crochet into this stitch at the start and end of each row) o = drop down double crochet (dddc)

x = single crochet empty box = single crochet in the back loop only

Starting Chain – Fairly self explanatory, this is the foundation chain in colour A (light pink). You will then turn your work and work a sc in 2nd loop from hook in the same colour and all the way along, 25 sts.

Cut your yarn at the end of row 2 and leave a tail that is long enough to sew in. Rejoin your yarn in colour B (deep pink) for the next row in the first sc of row 2 (you will work all rows on the right side cutting your yarn at the end of each row and leaving a tail, you won’t turn your work again).

Alternate between colour A and B each row, using the symbols as a guide for each stitch type you need to use. To make a drop down double crochet (dddc) work an ordinary dc into the stitch 2 rows below, which will be in the front loop only. You will know if you are working into the right row as it will be the same colour as the stitch you are making.

Once you have completed the design, sew in your ends and work a sc border in colour A all around the coaster. Remember to put 2 sc into each corner to keep the edging flat.

Good luck! Let me know how you get on in the comments 🙂
