About the Cosy Cowl Design
I love chunky yarns for A/W designs and stylecraft special chunky is the perfect yarn for many garment and accessory designs as it’s not itchy and washes well. The concept for this design came to me when I was trying to think of an easy surface texture pattern, that beginners would be able to get to grips with.

Pattern notes
The cowl is worked in the round, using rows, from the bottom up. The texture is acheived by working stitches into the front and back loops only.
Foundation chain – Make 80 chain stitches and join with a slip stitch, taking care not to twist your chain.
Row 1 – Chain 2 (doesn’t count as a stitch) and make the first half double crochet into the same chain (at the base of the 2 chain stitches), make one half double crochet into each chain stitch around. Check to make sure you have 80 half double crochet stitches before slip stitching into the top of the first 2 chain.
Row 2 – Chain 2 (doesn’t count as a stitch) *make a double crochet into the BACK loop only of the next stitch, repeat for the next 4 stitches. Make a double crochet into the FRONT loop only of the next stitch and the following 4 stitches.* The previous 10 stitches set the pattern, so repeat from *to* around until you reach the last stitch. Check to make sure you still have 80 stitches before slip stitching into the top of the first 2 chain.
Row 3 – Chain 2 (doesn’t count as a stitch) *make a double crochet into the FRONT loop only of the next stitch, repeat for the next 4 stitches. Make a double crochet into the BACK loop only of the next stitch and the following 4 stitches.* The previous 10 stitches set the pattern, so repeat from *to* around until you reach the last stitch. Check to make sure you still have 80 stitches before slip stitching into the top of the first 2 chain.
Rows 4-13 Repeat rows 2 and 3 alternately.
